1904 Lions Tour - updated 24th Nov 04
Here are some cards that relate to the 1904 tour by the British Isles to New Zealand. (click on the card below to get a larger picture)
This card shows a picture of the 1904 New Zealand Football Team, picture taken
13.08.1904. by F. E Tomlinson. Wellington. card has been posted to the U.S.A.
A cartoons of the game between the Lion and the Kiwi, gives the result of the
game as 9 - 3 - on the ball it say's "Championship 1904"
A further comic card "The Moa and the Lion" the result has been
adjusted, but history recalls the 9 - 3 result as the first loss by a Lions
side.
This card shows the game in progress Britain V New Zealand in Wellington and the
result 9 - 3
This is a picture of the 1904 British team on the Australian leg of the tour,
note the inclusion of the Lion mascot.
A further picture from the tour showing "A Throw-in from touch" in the
game against Australia.
