A few different bits picked up over the past few weeks.

These are match box labels made in New Zealand with details and pictures of 1930's great All Blacks. The Barbarians programme from there game against the touring South Africans in 1952, 8 Welsh players in the team.   1930 Middlesex 7 a-side programme at this time event was in aid of the Middlesex Hospital Cancer Fund

1903 French Rugby postcard picked this up on the Internet for less than £10 a card that I have seen at fairs for £25+ Nice card with details of University of Cape Town 1st XV 1935 faces presented inside an ovalball. Modern card showing Bride and Groom sitting on the crossbar with a rugby ball 1999 ..but why?

Not many finds due to currently working away from home in Pakistan which must be one of the few countries that do not play rugby at all. The following few bits have come from eBay over the last few weeks.

Now back in the UK and hard on the trial of that 1905 All Black's programme I have found these few bits to keep me happy. Rugger Final from Tracker Books 1978 pre PC rugby game. Postcard for 2005 Hong Kong Tens. Strange postcard with banner in background for "The Springboks" taken at a game or is it the band. Rugby pipe nice shape carved from wood.

Programme and dinner menu for Oxford v Cambridge college's  game 1912 R.F.U. Stewards Badge Lion's badge for 2005 tour this is the large version, nice modern item. Silver rugby medal York 1908-9

It has taken me over 10 years to complete this subset of Taddy cards that are displayed below. Taddy cards are the hardest to find and most expensive of all the cigarette cards, so I was very pleased to buy the last one on eBay last week. They are the Richmond club from South East London one of the oldest rugby clubs in the UK. I have a number of these cards to sell or exchange if anyone is interested in starting their own collection, or needs some to complete a sub-set.

Items from week ending -  13/07/05

A few different bits this week some from eBay, and some from my local postcard fair. You have to go and have a look you never know what may turn up!

From NZ showing the 77 Lions - size 17"x 11" great pictures and stories, have seen nothing like it from the 05 tour yet School boy annual from 1938, great cover picture back-up by some good stories inside. 1957 Rugby Digest have not seen this before would like any more if you know of them. Rare postcard of the English Rugby International Team season 1912-13, some very famous players here including Stoop from Harlequins. This card is for sale...make me an offer before I put it on eBay. The Australian Amateur Rugby Team "The Wallabies" also for sale.
Comic Cartoons of Sport @1928 a collection of sports humor advertising "Mineral Springs" tonic drink The RUGBY Cartoon The details of the game, as per the Comic Cartoon Golf, also Cricket, Tennis, Boating, Swimming, Bowls, Fox Hunting, Angling, Horse Racing, Curling and Soccer The Game of Life
A small collection of items related to Tomas Cook Rugby Football Club. The TC team outside their clubhouse. After the game against Rugby Hilversum, touring as if should be, not so happy with the half pints they are drinking. Nice rugby postcard, no detail but suggested that it my be Hartlepool? One here for the Welsh, on the eve of the celebrations for the 1905 AB's tour.

Finds from this years visit to International Picture Postcard Fair held at the Royal Horticultural Halls, London. SW1 31st Aug - 3rd Sept 2005 - I would have been happy just to have found any one of these cards but to come away with this lot makes me one happy bunny.

Bude College Durham 1912-13 "Dear Mother Just a photo of our rugby team......" What schools would do this now? I know a few people on the internet who will love this card, a write-away from @1905 - " I caught the post..." Blackheath Football Club 1st XV 1913-14 with de Villiers and H. Coverdale in the team. , Rugby Football, A Rush from the Wrench Series No. 3845 Bradford Rugby Football Club - Marsden as captain but no year given
Hull Rugby Football Team  (Northern Union) no year but 15 in the team. Cardiff V Newport I hope its the rugby not the soccer game. The New Zealand Football Team - A new one for me part of the Scott Series No 846 - Birmingham Coventry (Rugby) Football Team 1907-08 - W. L. Oldham as captain. Modern card - from the 2003 R.W.C. called rugby moves.
Picked up 11 cards from this series still looking for No 12. Rugby card from Manchester 2002 1999 R.W.C. card from Outspan says a lot about the modern advertising in the game. Back of card says "Bob Mc Lester" press photo from Barrow-in-Furness a player to investigate. This was the find of the day, celebrating Scotland's win over the 1906 SA team. This is going to form part of my web pages dedicated to the 1906 Springboks.

Had to include this card from the 1904 Rugby in Australia series this is the New South Wales Team. I have added to my 1904 Lions page as this was one of the teams played in Australia.

Unknown rugby team with no details as to whom. One of the players who has what looks like a Scottish cap for @1905 A Pin for the Royal Engineers Rugby Football team.

Postcards and finds this week.

1908 French advertising card for Tunmers balls, show Stade Bordelais 1908 French Champions R.N.A.S - Mullion 1918-19 this card picked up in France from the De-champs auction site Thanks-giving card more American football than rugby Nice team card chap in 2nd row has what looks like a Scottish cap on his head.
E. J Owen looks like a Northern Union player card from Catchsrside Yorks  J. Brough, Full Back, Silloth and Cumberland,  2 games for  England one against the 1924 AB's Photo card Clem Lewis from Cardiff Nice American golf advertising cards, well it can't all be rugby.
1924 Olympic games part of a set that includes rugby and soccer. The Season of Battle advertising cards for Nike kit. "A more beautiful game" Women's football a nice set of modern cards, will our rugby ladies be following this up? Adidas produce some nice modern cards if you can find them, this one for soccer.

Items from week ending - 20/12/2005

With Christmas coming up very little on the memorabilia front a few postcards and some older programmes.

Comic McGill postcard could be rugby or football but the view is the same. County rugby at Gloucester rugby club. One of 3 Varsity game programmes 1935, 36, 39. famous face in the 1935 was Prince A. Obolensky playing for Oxford.
The referee subject of debate in both rugby and football. Cricket South African tour to UK in 1951 packed with Pen pictures and tour details. More rugby at Gloucester this time the England U19's against Australia how many of these will make it to the next World cup.

29/12/2005 -

Last update of the year, items found at a postcard fair in Cheltenham. Rugby cards are getting very scarce at the moment with the comic cards now increasing in price and good team cards almost impossible to find under £20.
