4th October  2006 - Here are some recent postcard with more to follow in the next few days. these have also been posted on www.rugby-pioneers.com

These are a set of card published around 1904 by the " Western Mail" and I assume given as free gifts when you purchased the newspaper. They are draw by J. M. S. who is  J. M. Staniforth a popular cartoonist of the age. He is well know for his series of cards called the "Colliery Series" which illustrated the conditions in the Welsh coalmines at the turn of the 18th Century.

I have been  trying to collect this set for the last 3 years, I think there format and style  as write-away cards is better than the Tom Brown cards and many of the other  comic cards of the era. Up until last week-end I had only found 3 of the  cards but when visiting a card fair in South London I found the Newport and  Wales cards. I have no idea how many cards are in the set as I can find no  reference to them on the web or in any catalogue. If I find more I will share  with you if I find copies I will buy as to-date I have only ever seen these  cards. If you know of any more or of any details of these cards please let me know.

Russell and P.McCue..........wearing Australian jerseys' and Honour caps with "A" & 1907 on peak........therefore awarded when playing against New Zealand in 1907, in Australia......... rare!! Comic card the adventures of "Nosey Parker" part of a series I will try and show the others later.

24th June 2006 - This is one of the best buys I have had from eBay in recent months, expensive but a great item. I do not have to say much about this card but items relating to the NZ Maori team are difficult to find. If you have any details about this side would only be to happy to publish.

25th May 2006 - It's some time since I last updated my resent finds as there is very little rugby memorabilia in the U. A. E. What I have found has come from eBay,  I always believed that as eBay grew and got more popular then the popularity of Rugby memorabilia would grow. This has proved to be very true with simple items that would not have found a home 2 or 3 years ago now fetching good money.

30/01/2006 - This is a French rugby badge from ebay about  10cm long has holes for fixing to front of car or onto radiator. Nice item not as old as suggested by the ebay seller and is probably available at  the French Rugby Union shop in Paris, if they have one?
30/01/2006 - Nice card showing a game of rugby at Newlands in SA. sent to an address in Melbourne Australia and purchased from internet postcard site called Edwardian Delights.
30/01/2006 -  Another from the same source showing the New South Wales Team of 1905 from the Rugby in Australian series. This was the team that played against the British Isles.
30/01/2006 - Third card from Australia showing the 1907 All Blacks team. It would be interesting to find out how many had survived from the team of 1905 that turned Europe.
Update of details above thank you Paul in Paris There were twelve All Blacks who toured on
both 1905 "Originals" visit to Europe and on the 1907 trip to Australia: Backs; W J Wallace, EE Booth, J Hunter (capt. in Australia), H J Mynott & F Roberts
Forwards; ST Casey, W Cunningham, W Johnston, A MacDonald, G W Nicholson, J M  O'Sullivan & CE Seeling.
Mynott and Roberts (as captain) also toured Australia in 1910 and MacDonald captained the 1913 All Blacks to North America becoming, to my knowledge, the last of the originals to play for the All Blacks.
Wallace managed the 1932 tour and MacDonald the 1938 and 49 tours to Australia.

12/02/2006 - Halcyon Days enamel pot showing England Rugby World cup details. Nice item, made for the Twickenham shop, un-wanted gift £4.95 on eBay cost over £35 new.
05/02/2006 - Obtained from a local auction in Cirencester nice cricket bat from the 1998 Cornhill Insurance test series England V's South Africa signed by both teams. A local sports auction with unfortunately no rugby items, highlight was a stuffed full size Giraffe and a host of assorted  animals. Always worth a visit as you never know what you may find I also bought a table-top Bagatelle and Bar Billiards table.
02/02/2006 -Label from a bottle of beer called "Football Stout" described as a "Splendid Winter Drink". Stout is no longer a fashionable drink in the UK, rugby has changed as well lets hope we last longer than the drink.

02/02/2006 -Nice little book from eBay again with the story of the Haka, this one has come via the USA. Gives plenty of detail about the history of the Haka and it's importance in New Zealand rugby folk lore.
