MY
Rugby World Cup 2007___________________________________________
Well I made it to Paris for the RWC and as part of the weekend had dinner on the
Friday with members of the Rugby Memorabilia Society.

Left to right:
Frederic Hubert -
http://rugby-pioneers.blogs.com/ , Michael Fahey -
http://www.lgm.com.au/
Gideon Nieman - University of Pretoria, Me (and the wife), plus Geoff Nagle -
Twickenham.
Thank you Frederic for organising a great meal in
J'GO a restaurant
part owned by Fabien Galthié, great food, good rugby conversation and a great
start to the week-end.
I have added a few pictures of the weekend here:-

click on image for full size version.
I have not seen this card before and have no idea who the artist was, any
information would be most welcome.
7th July 2007 - This is one of
the most sort after postcard from the 1924 Olympic games, the current Olympic
Champions - USA. Cost a small fortune but very rare now just need the French
team who lost in the finale.

Strange how they only had 15 shirts the substitute on the
right had to provide his own, what price one of these shirts finding its way on
to Ebay. Has any one got details of the badge?

except for these 3 nice cards from eBay, part of an unknown set issued in Italy
in the 1930's.
5th June 2007 - A few new postcards including
my first 2007 RWC cards
31st May 2007 - As many of you
know I very rarely buy rugby programmes as its not an area that I collect, but
at a recent postcard fair I picked up the collection below. The nice thing about
these is that they represent an area of the game that has now been lost, due to
the professional era and the need to make money. England v The Rest, Army V RAF,
British Army v French Army all games played at Twickenham. London Counties v
Italy their first ever game at HQ for the Italians.
Another nice thing about this group is the fact that they had been
collected by a young support going to the games with his father and friends. If
you have an interest in forces rugby these programmes are for sale please
contact me at the email address below for details.
 |

in recent years and I have seen many of the sets at knock down prices, now may
be the opportunity to pick up a few that add to your collecting theme.
Within this lot are a number of cards that are for sale as I have taken to
picking up odd cards when I see them. If sold from this site I sell at cost plus
postage so get in quickly before I move them to eBay. I have also included
examples of expensive cards in poorer condition that may be of interest to my

22nd February 2007 - As most of you
will know I am not a collector of rugby programmes but every now and again an
item comes along that can not be resisted and this is one. It's the official
match day programme for the Devon v South Africa match played at The Rectory
Ground, Devonport. on 17th October, 1906. This was the 7th match of the tour and
a score of South Africa 22 points against Devon 6 points more than doubled the
number of points scored against the Springboks in there first 6 games. So far
they had played 6, won 6, points for 187 against 4.
As noted in the book about the tour "The CAROLIN Papers" their hardest
game to date, with E. W. Roberts of Devon being the first player to score a try
against the touring South Africans. A rare find and in good order for a single
sheet of A4 paper that is now over 100 years old.
12th February 2007 - I have just bought
the 6th cards for my collection of "Rugby in Australia" this was the Australian
team. A rare set of postcards that I have no details of, I do not know how many
are in the set and no details of who published them or when. I assume the
subject matter is about the "Lions" tour of 1904 and the teams that they played.
I assume produced in 1904 as at least one of the cards was posted in 1905. So if
you know of any more details or have images of the cards please drop me a line.
Of course if you are selling more of these let me know as I will pay top price
for them.
